Reading every platform your trade is reviewed on
Google is one source of nine, and rarely the one that decides anything.
What it is
A hotel is booked on Booking.com and reviewed there. A software firm is shortlisted on G2. A haulage firm is checked on a federal safety database before anybody looks at its website. Reading only the platform everybody has heard of means reading the one your customers use least.
The source list is chosen by trade before a run starts, from a table of 108 platforms across 21 trades. It is the same table this website's Industries pages are built from, so a source cannot appear in the marketing and be absent from the crawl.
How far it goes
Between 8 and 24 searches and 6 to 20 page reads per issue, planned from the trade before the first request goes out.
Performed by
research/directory.py. This page names the functions that do it, and
the build fails if any of them is renamed — marketing copy has no
compiler, so we gave this page one.
